La Montana

by Arley Gomez

Colombia Narino

A sweet and clean cup with malic fruit acidity. Expect notes of plum, red grape, milk chocolate, and marzipan. A smooth, balanced coffee with a lingering, refined sweetness.

About the Producer:
Arley Gomez has been cultivating coffee at La Montaña since 2002. His 3-hectare farm, located in the high-altitude region of Buesaco, Nariño, is primarily dedicated to specialty coffee. With 10,000 trees across 2.5 hectares, Arley and his wife carefully manage their farm, focusing on quality and consistency. He aims to reinvest in infrastructure to improve his family's living conditions and enhance coffee production.

Processing Method:
The coffee is meticulously processed using a washed method:

  • Cherries are handpicked and sorted using flotation tanks to separate by density.
  • They undergo a 36-hour submerged fermentation to develop clarity and complexity.
  • Finally, the coffee is sun-dried on patios under controlled conditions for optimal moisture balance.

About the Region:
Nariño, one of Colombia’s most exciting coffee-growing areas, sits at extreme altitudes of 2050-2200 masl on steep hillsides. The region’s dry climate during harvest and high elevations create a unique environment, yielding coffees with bright acidity, refined sweetness, and complex fruit notes.

Why We Love This Coffee:
La Montaña embodies the unique terroir of Nariño, offering a bright, fruit-forward profile with a smooth, chocolatey finish. A versatile coffee that shines as both a filter and espresso, it’s a must-try for those seeking depth, clarity, and a refined sweetness in their cup.
