About the Producer:
Didier Motta is a first-generation coffee farmer from the village of El Cogollo in Gigante, Huila. He established Finca Villa Luz in 2010 at 1,620 meters above sea level. Together with his wife, Dina Luz Jara, he manages the 2.5-hectare farm, where they grow approximately 9,000 Supremo Caturra trees. Didier is an active member of Coocentral and is committed to improving both coffee quality and living standards for his family and community.
Processing Method:
The coffee is carefully processed using a traditional washed method:
- Hand-harvested cherries are picked during the main seasons (May–July and October–December).
- They undergo a 12-hour in-husk fermentation, followed by depulping and a 48-hour fermentation in bags.
- Drying is done under a canopy (marquesina) to preserve clarity and balance.
About the Region:
Gigante, Huila is part of one of Colombia’s most renowned coffee-growing regions. Its combination of high elevation, volcanic soil, and skilled producers results in coffees with excellent acidity, sweetness, and complexity.
Why We Love This Coffee:
Villa Luz stands out for its smooth, sweet cup and balanced profile. It exemplifies the best of Huila terroir—vibrant yet comforting. Perfect for both filter and espresso brewing methods, it’s a delightful everyday coffee that showcases precision and care in every step of its production.
